We were pleased to host Christi Southerland from Prosperity Ag & Energy Resources. An expert in agricultural grant writing and grant administration, Christi shared information on two USDA grant programs available to farmers in Morgan County:

  1. REAP Grant (Rural Energy for America): Funding for the purchase, installation and construction of renewable every systems or energy efficiency upgrades. The grant provides 25% of the total system cost to the recipient, up to $500,000 for renewable systems and $250,000 for efficiency systems.
  2. VAP Grant (Value-Added Producer): Funding to help agricultural producers enter into value-added activities related to the processing and/or marketing of bio-based, value-added products. Generating new products, creating and expanding marketing opportunities, and increasing producer income are the goals of this program. Applicants must own 51% of the product being produced.

Prosperity professionals have secured over 400 grants in 38 states that has yielded over $60 million in funding. They charge a flat fee for their services and are willing to negotiate payment schedules. They simplify the application process by taking care of all the paperwork and administering required reports after funds are secured. The services they provide farmers go from start to finish, making it a seamless experience.

“Basically, a (USDA) grant is like a loan from a bank you don’t have to pay back.”
